St. Paul's is where I went to school and in those days was in East Sussex so had a catchment area that included Seaford where I used to live. Sadly the school is no more and the site has been sold for houses, however a new school has been built retaining the original name.
Now
St. Paul's Catholic College, (Local education authority: West Sussex) was a Secondary School in Haywards Heath, West Sussex. It is a Mixed school of Roman Catholic religion.
St. Paul's comprehensive Secondary School is relocating to a greenfield site at Burgess Hill and is the first Catholic school in the country to be built on a partnership basis. Partners include West Sussex County Council, contractor Gleeson, the diocese of Arundel and Brighton and the Governing body of the school.
The £10m new school will accommodate 800 pupils, including 180 sixth formers. The original school was built at Haywards Heath for 250 pupils in 1963.
The project has a distinctive eco-sensitive design by architects FM Modern Design, based around a central enclosed amphitheatre. The 31-acre site includes playing fields and a sports hall.
St. Paul's is also the first school in the country to receive a DTI grant for solar panels. The school will open in September 2004, and marks a new era for the college and its pupils.
"This £10m project is really important to Gleeson," commented contracts manager Allen Westgate. "We are pleased to be part of the project team on the first partnering project to be undertaken on a catholic school anywhere in the UK."
